Nursing home complaint backlog worse than expected: report

Just 51% of nursing home complaints filed with New York’s Department of Health have been closed since the COVID-19 pandemic after the agency reported an 87% closure rate in the two years prior, according to a new report. The findings come after an investigation found that more than 35,600 nursing home complaints were filed during the pandemic’s first two years — with more than 49% of them still being unresolved as ongoing investigations. Just 4% of cases have been substantiated, The Journal News reported.
