Department Of Education Issues New Guidance On Addressing IEPs During Pandemic.

October 5, 2021

Disability Scoop (10/5) reports new guidance from the Department of Education addresses many considerations for individualized education program teams, “offering input on how IEPs should be modified to address changes brought on by COVID-19.” A 41-page document released last week “is the second special education guidance release from the agency since the start of this school year.” It requires schools and IEP teams to “account for the needs of students with disabilities who are at increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19,” and must include “COVID-19 prevention strategies” deemed necessary in the IEP. The agency added that state regulations that “limit IEP teams from making sure these measures are in place in the least restrictive environment” would violate the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
