Department Of Education Seeks To Change Work Rules For Individuals With Disabilities.

January 14, 2019

Disability Scoop (1/14, Diament) reports, “The U.S. Department of Education is expected to issue a proposal this month changing how the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act is implemented.” The article says “a group of Republican members of Congress” was concerned that “the rules were leading state vocational rehabilitation agencies to no longer refer individuals with disabilities to the federal AbilityOne Program which provides employment opportunities for those who are blind or have significant disabilities, typically in segregated settings.” However, Education Department spokeswoman Elizabeth Hill said the DOE “will continue to hear from diverse stakeholders with varying perspectives on this issue and is considering all feedback.”
