Many Older Americans Continue To Owe Student Loan Debt.

The Wall Street Journal (2/2, Andriotis, Subscription Publication) reported Americans aged 60 and older owe approximately $86 billion in student debt, with some paying off loans for their children’s college tuition and others for themselves as they went back to school to increase their own employment prospects. According to data available from TransUnion, student loan borrowers in their 60s owed on average $33,800 in 2017, up 44 percent from 2010, and the total student loan debt rose 161 percent in this age group from 2010 to 2017.
