More Disabled Travelers Facing Difficulties Over Wheelchair Batteries When Flying.

The Washington Post (9/12, Morris) reports “a growing number of people with disabilities who use mobility devices powered by lithium ion batteries” are claiming “flying with a wheelchair powered by” such batteries can be unpredictable. Individual “airlines often impose additional restrictions on the batteries” and training for airline staff is not thorough enough to prevent confusion over the Federal Aviation Administration’s guidelines. The issue could compound as well as demand for the lighter lithium ion batteries which can last longer has been growing.
