NYTimes Blog Post Highlights The Importance Of Being Prepared For An Emergency.

January 7, 2021

In a “Well” blog post for the New York Times (1/7), Tara Parker-Pope reflects on how the COVID-19 pandemic made her realize she was unprepared for an emergency. Parker-Pope says, “Perhaps the greatest gift you can give to your family is a binder of legal documents that will make sure everyone is prepared for an emergency.” In her own binder, Parker-Pope says the first pages “are from this AARP worksheet, which is the best checklist I’ve found to help identify everything a loved one might need in a crisis.” The worksheet “includes space to list medical, insurance, financial and end-of-life information and answers the most important question for your loved ones: ‘Where is it kept?’” State-specific forms for writing an advance directive are also available on AARP’s website.
