The Administration on Aging, a program division within ACL, is pleased to announce it has awarded a grant to the Meals on Wheels Association of America for $225,000 for the first year of a three year project. This grant will continue to fund the National Resource Center on Nutrition and Aging.

On Thursday, May 8, 2014, the ACL Alzheimer's Disease Supportive Services Program held a new webinar on as part of a series to provide helpful, current, and applicable information for professionals who work with people with dementia and/or their caregivers. This particular webinar focused on elder abuse and neglect as it relates to people with dementia. Participants learned about: The incidence and prevalence of elder abuse, especially abuse of those with dementia

ACL has authored a new issue briefing entitled “The Opioid Public Health Emergency and Older Adults.”  Opioid misuse and addiction have become a large, nation-wide issue. Opioid use disorder can affect people of all ages; racial, ethnic, sexual and gender minorities; income classes; and geographic areas.  Older adults are among the groups affected by this problem because they often use prescription opioids to cope with painful chronic conditions, such as arthritis, or procedures, such as surgery.

On Tuesday, September 1, 2015, the National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center held a webinar on creating communities that are safe and respectful, provide support, and work toward quality of life for people living with dementia and their families. Webinar participants learned about key concepts related to Dementia Friendly Communities and heard from community leaders putting these concepts into action. Webinar recording (YouTube)
