February is African-American History Month
The Administration for Community Living (ACL) joins President Obama and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in recognizing February as National African-American History Month in appreciation of the contributions to our nation made by people of African descent.
While we take time this month to recognize the accomplishments of African Americans, we know that disparities exist. Racial and ethnic minorities often have higher rates of illness and disease, fewer treatment options, and reduced access to care. The Affordable Care Act is expanding access to health care to millions of previously uninsured Americans through the Health Insurance Marketplace.
In addition, the ACL continues its efforts to address the health and long-term services and supports needs of people with disabilities and older adults.
