The National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) at ACL has forecasted two new research funding opportunities that will be open in the near future.
These grants come under two funding programs: Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects (DRRP) and Small Business Innovation Research Program (SBIR).
Click the links below to learn about these forecasted funding opportunities that may help with advance planning and preparation to apply.
Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects (DRRP)
The purpose of the DRRP program is to plan and conduct research, demonstration projects, training, and related activities (including international activities) to develop methods, procedures, and rehabilitation technology that maximize the full inclusion and integration into society, employment, independent living, family support, and economic and social self-sufficiency of individuals with disabilities.
Small Business Innovation Research Program (SBIR)
The purpose of the SBIR program is to stimulate technological innovation in the private sector, strengthen the role of small business in meeting federal research or research and development needs, and improve the return on investment from federally-funded research for economic and social benefits to the nation. The goal is to improve the lives of people with disabilities through research and development of products generated by small businesses, and to increase the commercial application of NIDILRR-supported research results and development products.
Phase I: The objective of Phase I is to determine the scientific or technical merit and feasibility of proposed research or research & development (R/R&D) efforts that appear to have commercial potential. This feasibility is a prerequisite for further support in Phase II. Phase I awards are for periods up to six months in amounts as indicated in the Funding Opportunity Announcements.
Phase II: The objective of Phase II is to continue the research or R&D effort initiated in Phase I with approaches that exhibit potential for commercial application. Phase II awards are for periods up to two years in amounts as indicated in the Funding Opportunity Announcements.
