Bernard Baker is president of Self Advocates Becoming Empowered (SABE), a national disability rights organization. Bernard remembers what his life was like before the ADA. Since the law was passed, he has gained more freedom—freedom to live more independently, to get around town, and to participate in his community. He advises people with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities to learn their rights. “We’ve come a long way, but we have a long way to go,” he says.
