National Information and Referral Support Center (I&R Center) Call for Submissions

Information and referral/assistance (I&R/A) programs are a vital resource in times of disaster and emergencies. Programs have risen to many challenges over the past two years and beyond, developing innovative approaches to helping individuals, families, and communities. Now the I&R Center wants to hear from you! Share your disaster and emergency preparedness and response promising practices and you could join the I&R Center at the National Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Conference. Introduction
The I&R Center is launching a contest to identify and share promising practices for disaster and emergency preparedness and response in aging and disability I&R/A programs. Organizations are encouraged to think broadly about the roles of their I&R/A services in disasters and emergencies. Submissions from national, state, and community programs are welcome.
Eligibility
Eligible submissions include promising practices from aging and disabilities organizations that provide I&R/A services to older adults, people with disabilities, and/or family and friend caregivers. Submissions of promising practices that address I&R/A services at any phase of disaster management (mitigation, preparedness, response, and/or recovery) are welcome. Large and small agencies, including those that serve rural communities, are encouraged to apply.
Selection Criteria
Several submissions will be given awards, and additional submissions may be identified for development and dissemination of promising practice profiles. See the application for the full selection criteria.
Awards
Three promising practices will be selected for awards. The I&R Center will work with each awardee organization to develop, publish, and disseminate a promising practice profile. The profiles will be distributed to aging and disability I&R/A agencies across the country and posted on the ADvancing States website. Below are descriptions of the awards:
- 1st place award: Complimentary registration and lodging for one staff person for the 2022 National HCBS Conference (August 14-18, 2022, Marriott Marquis Hotel, Washington, DC). The awardee will also receive recognition for its practice at the Information and Referral/Assistance Conference Intensive.
- 2nd place award: Complimentary registration for one staff person for the 2022 National HCBS Conference. The awardee will also receive recognition for its practice at the Information and Referral/Assistance Conference Intensive.
- 3rd place award: Breakfast gift box and “swag bag” of ADvancing States goodies. A breakfast gift box to be enjoyed by I&R/A staff in the office or at home along with some ADvancing States swag.
