On June 15, we will join the world in marking World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD). WEAAD is an opportunity for us all to promote dialogue and education on the issue of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
ACL’s National Center on Elder Abuse has a variety of resources and activities to help you commemorate WEAAD and be a part of the movement for elder justice. You can:
- Explore tools and tips to make raising awareness easier for you and your network.
- Search for local, national, and international WEAAD events, and make sure you add your event to the list!
- Raise awareness on social media by participating in the #WEAAD615 challenge.
The week of WEAAD, NCEA will be sharing resources, hosting discussions, and promoting awareness about elder abuse around these daily themes:
- 6/12, Monday: Interdisciplinary partnerships
- 6/13, Tuesday: Intergenerational collaboration
- 6/14, Wednesday: Intervention & prevention
- 6/15, Thursday: Intersectionality of elder abuse
- 6/16, Friday: International elder justice efforts
Stay tuned for more planned activities and resources, including the Walk for WEAAD — happening May 1 through June 15 — and an opportunity to order WEAAD bookmarks. Together, let’s take action to create a more age-friendly society, free from abuse and neglect.
