Join Us Monday for HHS’ Americans with Disabilities Act 35th Anniversary Celebration

July 25, 2025

Dear Colleagues,

The Administration for Community Living cordially invites you to join us and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights on Monday, July 28, 2025, to honor 35 years of progress since the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act. This event will bring together individuals with disabilities, families, advocates, and leaders in a shared commitment to the inherent dignity and worth of every person.

This gathering is about more than commemorating a historic law—it’s about honoring the people and stories that give the ADA life and meaning. Together, we’ll reflect on how far we’ve come, hear powerful personal stories that illustrate the impact of that progress, and reinforce our shared commitment to shape an even better future for all people with disabilities.

Highlights will include:

  • Remarks from the Secretary of Health and Human Services
  • Reflections from individuals with disabilities and their families on the impact of the ADA
  • Perspectives on the ADA's implementation and future from federal partners, including the HHS Office for Civil Rights, the Department of Justice, and the National Council on Disability

The event will be livestreamed from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM from the Great Hall of the HHS headquarters building in Washington, D.C. No registration is needed to participate.

ASL and live captioning will be provided, and the event will be recorded. We’ll share a link to the recording as soon as it is available.

We look forward to celebrating this important milestone with you.

Sincerely,

Mary Lazare, Acting Administrator and Assistant Secretary for Aging
