Kicking Off Older Americans Month

May 1, 2026

Today marks the start of Older Americans Month (OAM) – a time to recognize older Americans’ contributions, highlight aging trends, and reaffirm our commitment to supporting older adults in our communities.

This year’s theme, Champion Your Health, emphasizes prevention, wellness, and personal responsibility as foundations of healthy aging. It encourages people to take an active role in managing their health, advocate for themselves, access preventive care, and make informed decisions that support independence.

Champion Your Health. Older Americans Month. May 2026. #OlderAmericansMonth. acl.gov/oamJoin us this month as we highlight the value of evidence-based programs, healthy habits, and the important roles families, caregivers, and communities play in helping people live their healthiest lives.
