Medicare Fraud Prevention Week

June 1, 2026

June 1-5, 2026

Medicare loses an estimated $60 billion each year due to fraud, errors, and abuse. The impact on people across the country is significant, often costing them time, money, and peace of mind. Every June, ACL and its Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) Resource Center lead the nation's observance of Medicare Fraud Prevention Week, an opportunity to raise awareness of actions everyone can take to prevent fraud.

ACL's SMP Program

SMP empowers and assists Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to prevent, detect, and report suspected health care fraud, errors, and abuse through outreach, counseling, and education. Through offices across the country, SMP provides free, unbiased one-on-one assistance, from teaching people how to manage billing errors to helping beneficiaries report suspected fraud to state and federal agencies.
