Background

The Older Americans Act (OAA) reauthorization in March 2020 established the “Inter-Agency Committee on Healthy Aging and Age-Friendly Communities.” The ICC, as we refer to it, received inaugural funding through ACL’s Fiscal Year 2023 Appropriation, which also added a focus on falls prevention and informing a potential White House Conference on Aging.

The OAA requires the ICC to develop a coordinated approach to addressing key areas related to healthy aging and age-friendly communities. These include:

  • Coordinated housing and supportive services
  • Aligned health care and supportive services
  • Age-friendly communities
  • Increased access to long-term services and support
