Bernard Baker is president of Self Advocates Becoming Empowered (SABE), a national disability rights organization. Bernard remembers what his life was like before the ADA. Since the law was passed, he has gained more freedom — freedom to live more independently, get around town, and participate in his community. He advises people with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities to learn their rights. “We’ve come a long way, but we have a long way to go,” he says.
