Webinar - Enhancing Housing Stability for Individuals With TBI at Risk for or Experiencing Homelessness

Webinar date: March 27, 2024

The ACL-funded Housing and Services Resource Center hosted a webinar on cross-sector partnerships and how they can enhance housing stability for individuals with traumatic brain injury (TBI) at risk for or experiencing homelessness. Disability, aging, health, and housing organizations — along with state officials and policymakers — can collaborate to expand access to TBI programs and services. Presenters discussed types of services that can enhance housing stability and best practices for collaboration between housing, health, and social care services to increase access to those supports. Viewers can watch the recording to gain an understanding of the types of services that can enhance the housing stability of individuals with TBI and learn about the collaborations to increase access to those supports. In October 2018, the National Health Care for the Homeless Council reported that disabilities associated with TBI could interfere with a person’s ability to maintain stable housing and employment. Recent studies have found that half of all people experiencing homelessness report a history of TBI, and evidence indicates that unstable housing situations make it more difficult to fully recover. People who are homeless and living with TBI are more likely to sustain another injury, become the victim of a crime, be arrested, or become dependent upon emergency room visits for treatment. They require supports and services that meet them where they live.
