Medicare Fraud Prevention Week (MFPW)

June 5-11, 2023

Every June, ACL and its Senior Medicare Patrol Resource Center lead the nation's observance of Medicare Fraud Prevention Week. Established in 2022, this week focuses on raising awareness of the actions everyone can take to prevent Medicare fraud, errors, and abuse.

Medicare loses an estimated $60 billion each year due to fraud, errors, and abuse. Every day, issues related to these problems affect people across the country, often costing them time, money, and peace of mind.

About ACL's Senior Medicare Patrol ProgramSenior Medicare Patrol: Preventing Medicare Fraud

SMP's mission is to empower and assist Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to prevent, detect, and report suspected health care fraud, errors, and abuse through outreach, counseling, and education. With offices in all 50 states, Washington, DC, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, SMP provides free, unbiased one-on-one assistance. Local team members teach people how to prevent fraud and manage billing errors and disputes. If a beneficiary suspects they have been a victim of Medicare fraud, a team member will work with them to report it to the correct state and federal agencies. Learn more from this Prevent Medicare Fraud Flyer and ACL's SMP page.
