Today at 10am ET: Elder Justice Coordinating Council Virtual Meeting

Today's virtual Elder Justice Coordinating Council meeting will highlight the importance of including older adults in preparedness planning for disasters, emergencies, and pandemics and discuss the future of the elder justice movement as we prepare to commemorate World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. The meeting also will feature remarks from Jessica Schubel, Special Assistant to the President for Health Care at the Domestic Policy Council.

The Elder Justice Coordinating Council brings together leaders from across the federal government to address issues of elder justice nationally. Council members include the leaders of federal departments, agencies, and entities administering programs related to abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation.

Countdown to World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD)(link is external) is one week away. WEAAD is an important opportunity to raise awareness and take action for elder justice

The ACL-funded National Center on Elder Abuse has 

resources and sample social media content(link is external) to help you participate in a week of WEAAD commemorations to help you participate in a week of WEAAD activities and commemorations—beginning with the National Weekend of Prayer and Action for Elder Justice tomorrow thru Sunday and continuing next week with resources and activities around daily themes:

  • Monday, June 12: Interdisciplinary Partnerships
  • Tuesday, June 13: Intergenerational Collaboration
  • Wednesday, June 14: Intervention & Prevention
  • Thursday, June 15 (WEAAD): Intersectionality of Elder Abuse
  • !Friday, June 16: International Elder Justice Efforts

NCEA is also hosting a #WEAADWeek Twitter event(link is external) around these daily themes. Each day, NCEA will tweet a question at 1pm ET. You can reply any time that day using #WEAADWeek.
