ACL has authored a new issue briefing entitled “The Opioid Public Health Emergency and Older Adults.” Opioid misuse and addiction have become a large, nation-wide issue. Opioid use disorder can affect people of all ages; racial, ethnic, sexual and gender minorities; income classes; and geographic areas. Older adults are among the groups affected by this problem because they often use prescription opioids to cope with painful chronic conditions, such as arthritis, or procedures, such as surgery.
On Thursday, May 8, 2014, the ACL Alzheimer's Disease Supportive Services Program held a new webinar on as part of a series to provide helpful, current, and applicable information for professionals who work with people with dementia and/or their caregivers.
This particular webinar focused on elder abuse and neglect as it relates to people with dementia. Participants learned about:

On Tuesday, September 1, 2015, the National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center held a webinar on creating communities that are safe and respectful, provide support, and work toward quality of life for people living with dementia and their families.
Webinar participants learned about key concepts related to Dementia Friendly Communities and heard from community leaders putting these concepts into action.

The morning of June 5, 2018, the Elder Justice Coordinating Council hosted its spring meeting. Held at at the Securities and Exchange Commission building in Washington D.C., the meeting provided a day of updates and discussion on the future of elder justice. Established in 2010 by the Elder Justice Act, the EJCC coordinates activities related to elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation across the federal government.
On Thursday, July 30, 2015, the National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center held a webinar about the prevalence and characteristics of people with dementia who live alone.
Topics included the signs of self-neglect, intervention strategies, and the experiences of people with dementia who live alone.
