As National Family Caregivers Month draws to a close, I cannot help but reflect on the many challenges this year has presented to caregivers, families, service programs, and the nation. The strength and resilience of the people we serve and the networks who support them are matched by ACL’s resolve to recognize and support family caregivers. During this season of thanks, I celebrate the progress we have made and assure you that ACL is committed to continuing this important work.

Today, in advance of the approaching holiday season, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is urging nursing home staff, residents, and visitors to follow established guidelines for visitation and adherence to the core principles of infection prevention. These guidelines include remaining six feet apart from individuals, wearing a face covering, and limiting the number of visitors in the nursing home at any one time.

Earlier this fall, AARP released its 2020 Long-Term Services and Supports (LTSS) State Scorecard. The Scorecard seeks to measure state-level LTSS system performance from the viewpoint of users of services and their families.

On November 19th, 2020, America will celebrate the tenth anniversary of National Rural Health Day. In recognition of this milestone, the Administration for Community Living reiterates our commitment to the health and human services provided by the aging and disability networks across all rural communities.

Today, all of us at ACL join our nation in honoring those who have served in the military and recognizing the vital role they play in preserving our freedom. As a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, it is an honor to work alongside so many at ACL who have served in the armed forces.
