The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has announced a notice of funding availability for Mainstream (Section 811) Vouchers. The funding will be awarded to public housing agencies (PHAs) to support vouchers that provide sustained community-based integrated housing opportunities to non-elderly people with disabilities. HUD expects to award $150 million to house approximately 18,000 families.

Musculoskeletal conditions such as arthritis are the leading cause of disability and chronic pain in the United States. Historically, clinicians have prescribed opioids to people experiencing severe and chronic arthritis pain with the goal of improving physical function, participation in daily activities, and quality of life.

To provide effective services to individuals from diverse backgrounds, many health plans and providers use community health workers (CHWs). They are sometimes also known as promotoras de salud, community health representatives, community health advisors, or health navigators. CHWs have a culture- or experience-based connection with the people they serve. They come from a similar background, speak the same language, or live in the same community as their clients.
