In person-centered home and community-based services (HCBS), people define their own needs and preferences to live their lives the way they want. However, these outcomes are not always achieved, even when person-centered policies and programs are put in place.

Survey on Accessible Transportation for Older Adults and People with Disabilities The National Aging and Disability Transportation Center (NADTC) – a program of the Federal Transit Administration administered by Easterseals and USAging with guidance from ACL – wants to hear about challenges and promising practices in providing accessible transportation to older adults and people with disabilities. Survey responses will help influence the work NADTC does next year.

People who are dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid are almost three times as likely to have Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) as people eligible for Medicare only. Join Resources for Integrated Care (RIC) for a webinar on tools, resources, and strategies directly related to supporting the needs of dually eligible individuals and their caregivers.

They are also at higher risk for developing severe complications from COVID-19 and influenza (flu) viruses.

Grandparent scams play on the love grandparents share with their grandchildren. Scam perpetrators falsely state that a grandchild is in trouble with the law, sick, or injured and in need of an immediate transfer of a large sum of money to prevent dire harm to the grandchild.

Wednesday, September 21, 2022, 12:30-4:30 PM ET The second joint meeting of the RAISE Family Caregiving Advisory Council and the Advisory Council to Support Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (SGRG) will be held on September 21, 2022, to announce the release of the 2022 National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers, as required by the Recognize, Assist, Include, Support and Engage (RAISE) Family Caregivers Act. 

On September 15th, Join ACL’s Office of Nutrition and Health Promotion Programs (ONHPP) for a webinar on identifying and screening for food insecurity in older adults. Research in this area has been limited, but there are promising practices and resources available to help senior nutrition programs and others in the aging network address food insecurity.

The Home- and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Settings Rule can improve community-based services and supports for people with disabilities and older adults for decades to come. A key requirement of the Settings Rule is that states hear from people with disabilities and older adults about how the state can best implement the Rule.

During the month of September, the Center for Dignity in Healthcare for People with Disabilities will be a hosting #WebinarWednesdays, in which they will be presenting recommendations that will help close gaps in healthcare inequities experienced by people with disabilities.
