ACL recently awarded six grantees funding for innovative projects that will enhance the quality, effectiveness, and outcomes of nutrition services programs provided by the national aging services network. The grants total $742,872 for this year with a two-year project period. Through this grant program, ACL aims to identify innovative and promising practices that can be scaled across the country and to increase use of evidence-informed practices within the nutrition programs. This week is National Retirement Savings Week and the occasion gives us an opportunity to highlight a success story. This story is how a 65-year old widow from Massachusetts was helped to recover her lost pension. One of our ACL grantees, The New England Pension Assistance Project helped this widow obtain her monthly benefit and retroactive lump sum from her deceased husband’s pension from the Massachusetts branch of the Service Employees’ International Union (SEIU) pension plan.

ACL recently awarded Elder Justice Innovation Grants totaling nearly $2.2 million to five non-profit organizations to support the development and advancement of emerging practices to prevent and respond to the abuse of older adults and adults with disabilities. These two-year grants seek to improve the well-being of abuse survivors, study outcomes of Adult Protective Services (APS) interventions, and test promising practices related to APS work. A rigorous evaluation component is built into each of these new grants.   Responses to Reduce Harm:

The Administration for Community Living recently awarded a new grant totaling $950,638 for the National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA) to Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California (USC). This is a three-year continuation grant. NCEA, in partnership with key stakeholders, will build upon a strong foundation to engage professionals and empower communities to establish, strengthen, and support just and thriving societies working together to eliminate elder abuse.

The Administration for Community Living awarded 11 grants totaling $10,787,854 over a three-year period through the Alzheimer's Disease Initiative: Specialized Supportive Services (ADI-SSS) program, which builds and expands dementia capability in states and communities and fills gaps in services for people with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) and their caregivers.
