On January 10, 2019, the NIDILRR-funded Family Support Research and Training Center (FSRTC) held a special webinar hosted by Easter Seals on the Strategic Plan for Family Support Research, which was released last year in November. Dr. Sandra Magaña of University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Brian Grossman of University of Illinois at Chicago and Randa Abdelrahim, graduate student at University of Illinois at Chicago, presented on the years long process of developing the strategic plan and highlights of the plan.

Today, ACL posted new data on the Long-Term Care Ombudsman program’s impact in fiscal year 2017. Looking through the data, I am struck by both the scope and the impact of the work that ombudsmen do every day.
As the Ombudsman program enters its 40th year as a mandatory program of the Older Americans Act, I want to take this opportunity to reflect on some of the data ACL has compiled, highlight some of the amazing work done by programs across the country, and discuss some important developments for the future of the program.

Cardiovascular disease is prevalent in our society, disproportionately impacting older Americans. According to the American Heart Association, more than 85 million American adults have one of more types of cardiovascular disease. Of these, more than 43 million (approximately half) are age 60 or older.
