ACL Awards USC Cooperative Agreement To Operate National Center on Elder Abuse

August 26, 2024

ACL has awarded a new cooperative agreement to the University of Southern California (USC) to operate ACL’s National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA). USC will receive $1 million for the first year of this three-year project. With this funding, the NCEA will continue to serve as a national resource center dedicated to the prevention of elder maltreatment as captured in its mission statement: "National, state, and local partners in the field will be fully prepared to ensure that older Americans will live with dignity, integrity, independence, and without abuse, neglect, and exploitation."

The NCEA promotes effective and coordinated responses to elder maltreatment by identifying and disseminating promising practices, serving as a repository of research and training, providing technical assistance, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, and conducting demonstration projects.

The NCEA will work with aging and disability partners to maximize their impact nationally and plans to:

  • Build increased knowledge and awareness of elder maltreatment and supportive resources.
  • Foster stronger relationships with existing collaborators and new collaborations with organizations dedicated to the well-being of older people.
  • Increase exposure to and understanding of elder maltreatment research and promising programs.
  • Establish elder maltreatment champions in emerging professionals and under-utilized groups.
  • Increase participation in a national annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day campaign through events to spread awareness of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

Please visit the NCEA website to learn more about their activities and resources.
