NCEA Webinar: Person-Centered Approaches to Elder Abuse Interventions

January 9, 2023

Wednesday, January 25, 2023 | 2 PM ET

Register for the webinar.

Person-centered care has been defined in geriatric medicine as care where “individuals’ values and preferences are elicited and once expressed, guide all aspects of their health care, supporting their realistic health and life goals.” This approach has potential for improving outcomes for elder abuse victims, but adaptation to elder abuse interventions is in its infancy.

This webinar from the National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA) will be a discussion on person-centered approaches used with victims of elder abuse, among professionals from programs that assist victims by understanding what is important to them.

Speakers:

  • Kathi Church, MA, LMHC, NCC, Case Manager, Case Management Program, Aging and Disability Services, AAA for Seattle and King County
  • Polly Madson Cox, LCSW, Program Supervisor, Elder Abuse Institute of Maine (EAIME)
  • Julia Margaret Martinez, PhD, Research Associate of Family Medicine, Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California
  • Miles McNeeley, LCSW, Director, Elder Abuse Prevention Program, WISE & Healthy Aging
  • Kristen Misener, Program Development Director, Human Development Commission
  • Tracey Siebert-Konopko, LMSW, Assistant Director of Education, Training, and Research Initiatives, Upstate Elder Abuse Center at Lifespan of Greater Rochester

Closed captioning will be available during the webinar. Contact ncea-info@aoa.hhs.gov with any questions.

Funded by ACL, the NCEA serves as a national resource center dedicated to the prevention of elder mistreatment. In addition to providing elder abuse information to professionals and the public, it provides technical assistance and training to states and community-based organizations.
