Every May, the Administration for Community Living leads our nation’s observance of Older Americans Month. We are pleased to announce the 2019 theme, Connect, Create, Contribute, which encourages older adults and their communities to:
- Connect with friends, family, and services that support participation.
- Create by engaging in activities that promote learning, health, and personal enrichment.
- Contribute time, talent, and life experience to benefit others.
Communities that encourage the contributions of older adults are stronger! By engaging and supporting all community members, we recognize that older adults play a key role in the vitality of our neighborhoods, networks, and lives.
Older Americans Month 2019 will include suggestions, resources, and material to celebrate older Americans and the communities of which they are a vital part. Visit acl.gov/oam in early 2019 for ways to get started, and starting now, promote the observance on social media using #OAM19 and #ConnectCreateContribute.
Everyone benefits when everyone can participate. We encourage you to connect, create, and contribute for stronger and more diverse communities this May, and throughout the year.

Hi Diane! There are materials and ideas in the OAM section of the ACL website. https://acl.gov/oam/2019/activities. Be sure to check out the materials under each tab to find logos, sample badges and posters, ideas, and links to organizations that you might want to involve in your local event. There's even a checklist for planners like you. https://acl.gov/sites/default/files/oam/2016/doc/2016-OAM-Event-Tips.pdf
We hope this helps you get the ball rolling. We look forward to seeing your event on social media!
We celebrate this special month by our Annual Active Adult Senior Fitness and Resource Fair at our City Gym. Around 30 agencies (for profit pay and non-profit (free) ) and 6 health screening providers participate with about 300-350 seniors attending. Volunteers are given free t-shirts reflecting the theme of the Fair. You will need sponsors to offer boxed lunch to the vendors. Good luck on your first event.
in the past, every year we ordered Tshirts for the team and residents. i would like to do that this year also. Thank you!
Hi Hermineh,
We are glad your team is excited about Older Americans Month! Sadly, we do not have any T-shirts. But your organization is welcome to use the logos and designs on this website to make your own shirts -- or other promotional items.
LA Metro's On the Move Riders Program (www.metro.net/onthemove) is excited to be hosting a number of events in May to celebrate Older Americans Month. We love the theme! It falls right in line with the work we do everyday to educate and empower older adults to learn how to travel safely on public transportation.
Hi Lilly,
We're glad to hear that the theme helps tell the story of your programs. Transportation is one of the critical services that keeps older Americans and people with disabilities connected to their communities. We look forward to seeing what your team rolls out in May! (Pun intended.)
Just curious when the ideas for events or activities will be posted? Thanks!
Hello:
When will you be uploading the sample Resos and such for Older Americans Month 2019?
Thanks, Tamaran
