As we move through the holiday season, new challenges that people and organizations face include the heightened risk and probability of “bad actors”–people with criminal intention, organized crime groups, and state-sponsored groups–seeking to compromise people and organizations’ mobile phones, tablets, and systems to gain access to data and information.

Annual update to national Alzheimer’s plan adds focus on risk reduction  

ACL is seeking content experts and individuals with expertise in older adult food insecurity and/or malnutrition to join a technical expert panel (TEP) to help make recommendations to improve the National Survey of Older Americans Act Participants (NSOAAP). Panel members will be individuals from State Units on Aging (SUAs), Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs), other federal agencies, the aging network, special interest advocacy organizations, academia or research organizations, and policymakers. The TEP will work to ensure the inclusion of appropriate questions while balancing survey length.

In the midst of the holiday season, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) delivered good news for residents of nursing homes across the country: Visitation is now allowed for all residents at all times. Living in a long-term care facility, whether for short-term or long-term care, comes with many rights such as the right to receive quality care and services, to engage in activities of choice, and to receive visitors.

Public Comment on Organ Transplantation

Earlier this month, I was honored to chair the first Elder Justice Coordinating Council meeting of the Biden-Harris Administration. Created by the Elder Justice Act of 2010, the EJCC brings together federal departments, agencies, and entities administering programs related to elder abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation to coordinate a national elder justice response. In conjunction with the meeting, ACL launched a new EJCC website which we will continue to update over the coming months.

This time of year can mean more time spent indoors or outside enjoying the colder weather.
