ACL’s Updated Plan for Making Research Available to the Public

January 12, 2024

ACL’s Public Access Plan details requirements for making information generated by ACL-funded research more available to the public.

ACL is releasing a plan to expand public access requirements for peer-reviewed scholarly publications and scientific data.

ACL’s current Public Access Plan, first published in February 2016 and revised in June 2017, outlines requirements to make available to the public peer-reviewed publications and scientific data arising from research funded in whole or part by ACL.

In August 2022, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) issued a memo: “Ensuring Free, Immediate, and Equitable Access to Federally Funded Research.” ACL has developed a plan to address the expanded requirements for all research funded by federal agencies in response to guidance from this memo.

The expansion of public access requirements, as listed in this plan, will be incorporated into a new ACL Public Access Policy. The new policy will be released by December 31, 2024, and implemented by December 31, 2025. Until the new policy is in place, ACL will continue to follow the current Public Access Plan.
