ACL is announcing a new Assistive Technology (AT) Alternative Financing Program (AFP) funding opportunity. The $700,000 one-year AFP grant will support the purchase of AT devices, including through a low-interest loan fund, interest buy-down program, revolving loan fund, loan guarantee, insurance program, or additional activities that result in the acquisition of AT devices.

Every June, ACL and its Senior Medicare Patrol Resource Center lead the nation's Medicare Fraud Prevention Week (MFPW) observance. Established in 2022, this week focuses on raising awareness of actions everyone can take to help prevent Medicare fraud.

Social isolation and loneliness can have devastating impacts on our well-being. During Loneliness Awareness Week (June 12-18) and beyond, join ACL and its aging and disability networks in promoting meaningful social connection as an essential part of maintaining good mental and physical health.

The draft framework contains strategies and approaches to prevent human trafficking and its recurrence while increasing capacity to identify and reduce harm caused by human trafficking. The framework is informed by a public health approach and established concepts of violence prevention.

Medical diagnostic care is essential to everyone, including people with disabilities. Using this equipment often requires people to transfer, such as onto examination tables and chairs, for evaluation. Historically, medical diagnostic equipment (MDE) has been, and continues to be, inaccessible to many people who use wheelchairs, which can lead to misdiagnosis or barriers to basic care and examinations.

Marcie Roth, executive director and CEO at the World Institute on Disability, will discuss the impact of disasters on people with disabilities, as well as opportunities and research needs for improving outcomes for disaster-impacted people with disabilities.

“Resilience in Dementia Caregiving” will feature the latest research on resilience in dementia caregiving and provide real-world insights from dementia caregivers who are helping others to learn about resilience.

ACL is pleased to announce that it is making disaster funding assistance grants available across our networks in response to the catastrophic damage (including flooding and infrastructure destruction) that Puerto Rico experienced as a result of Hurricane Fiona on September 18, 2022.

This webinar will introduce health care professionals to the program and explain how they can access peer support for their patients with paralysis. Topics to be covered include an overview of the program, who its mentors are, how to refer a patient to be mentored, and the patient-mentor matching process.

The funding will support research, engage with the workforce system and its partners, and identify effective policies and practices that support disabled youth employment. It will also help provide resources and training to help support their transition to adulthood.
