Grandparent scams play on the love grandparents share with their grandchildren. Scam perpetrators falsely state that a grandchild is in trouble with the law, sick, or injured and in need of an immediate transfer of a large sum of money to prevent dire harm to the grandchild.

The National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP) just released the final component of the State Policy Roadmap for Family Caregivers. The goal of this publication is to provide a guide for state officials to better understand the state policy landscape for supporting family caregivers, and to identify opportunities for innovation in their states.

The Administration for Community Living (ACL) and partners from across the federal government jointly developed two new resources to help expand opportunities for competitive, integrated employment (CIE) for people with disabilities. CIE – jobs alongside coworkers with and without disabilities, in integrated settings in the community, at competitive wages, and with opportunities for advancement – is a critical part of community living.

ACL has awarded three new grants under the Lifespan Respite Care Program for FY 2022. Lifespan respite care programs are coordinated state systems of accessible, community-based respite care services for family caregivers of people of all ages with special needs. Such programs reduce duplication of effort and assist in the development of respite care infrastructure at the state and local levels.

The National Research Action Plan on Long COVID (the Research Plan).

ACL recently awarded cooperative agreements aimed at validating successful and innovative senior nutrition program models, including those created during COVID-19. Three community research grants, totaling $1,449,618 in FY22 awards, will focus on sustaining congregate and home-delivered meal programs as well as delivering impactful nutrition education.

Competitive, integrated employment (CIE) – working in the community, alongside people with and without disabilities, at competitive wages – offers a direct pathway to greater independence and self-sufficiency for people with disabilities. CIE is increasingly becoming the expectation across the country.
